With 2000 kisses of interest to her name on RSVP, YummyMummmy Trish must be doing something right. But it’s taken a while for her to learn the rules of the dating game online.

One of the first things she advises friends about is to be ready to take that step. As a divorced mum, she took several years to assess her past relationship and rediscover herself before moving forward.
A lot of people look for their soul mate when they’ve been separated for six weeks and I give them a slap across the head and say life isn’t always about being with someone. You have to find who you are in yourself.”

When Trish started feeling attraction again for other males, she knew it was time to start exploring new connections. Her first discovery was that the gender rules of dating – boy chases girl – also apply online.

“At the beginning I bought 10 emails, which is two books of stamps, because I wanted to get the ball rolling. But I found that when I was sending kisses and emails guys weren’t interested. By me doing that it took away their initiative. Men like the chase, even online.”
When it comes to searching the database – which you can filter by sex, age, location and personal habits like smoking – and responding to people, Trish believes in trusting your instincts.

“When someone contacts you, you get a feel for that person straight away. Email gives you an idea, in terms of their tone, the words they use. If you get a full page of their life, you know it’s a cut and paste job. But if that’s their plan, that’s fine.”
She also advises newcomers to ask lots of questions.

“Asking questions like how recent is your photo, how long have you been separated and how do you get along with your ex will give you an indication of where a person is at.”
Trish says dinner on a first date is to be avoided at all costs. That one she had to learn the hard way.

“For one Friday night dinner, the guy was really boring so I had to endure no conversation for an hour and a half. Coffee is best because it’s just half an hour of your time.”

RSVP has also put together a list of first date faux pas, based on feedback from more than 45,000 members. So if you’re hoping to get past first base, you better forget your ex, turn off your phone, get her name right and pop a breath mint.
