Whether you meet at a bar, the laundromat or on a dating website, discretion is important until you really know someone well. That’s why dating websites publish their own safety guidelines to help protect members’ privacy and safety.

RSVP’s marketing manager Jarvis says they’re strict on the rules in order to protect the brand’s good name as a safe and easy way to meet people.

“We publish a list of online dating safety tips on our website. We encourage members to read these and practice safe dating. We ask members also to abide by a published Code of Practice. Members who break the Code can have their profiles suspended or terminated.”
Jarvis says the website uses technology to monitor the site for any offensive material.

“We prohibit certain types of content and conduct online—e.g. sexually explicit, personal contact information and commercial activity,” she said.

She says the best way to prevent any stranger danger or misrepresentation is to invest time in getting to know someone before a face to face.

“The most successful members are prepared to spend time getting to know people online. They ask plenty of questions and speak on the phone before meeting someone in person. They arrange to meet in socially safe situations. They don’t give away personal contact details before they have a feel for what a person is like.”
